Since she heard her 'r' as a /w/, she would write it that way (Think: 'I love wabbits!'). As a Special Education teacher myself, I see how quickly children can get behind in school and, as a mom, I worried that the way she talked would begin to affect her friendships. When I spoke with her about receiving Speech services at school, she was upset by the thought of missing out on any of her classes or time with her friends... so I frantically searched for someone to help us at home."

"That’s when I a friend recommended Heather Little and Speech-Language Communications, LLC. I called Heather, who set up an appointment with one of her SLPs: Emily. Emily made the entire experience fun for Madison. She would show up each week loaded down with activities, and she and Madison would work hard! (Except Madison just thought it was fun!) Emily is professional, prompt, and Madison loved her. I truly thought my daughter would never be able to say her /r/ sound, but I am happy to report, her speech is perfect! If you talked to Madison now, you would never know what an impact Emily had on her life. Thanks to Emily, Madison’s writing is better, she is so much easier to understand, and she feels very confident about herself!"

"P.S. I started early with my 4 year old! He worked with Emily for one summer and already sounds more articulate. I couldn’t be happier with how Emily has helped my family!"

speech and language therapist photo“It became clear early on that Heather is an SLP because she cares deeply about the development of children and realizes the impact that a speech or language disorder can have on this development. She was truly an advocate for both of our kids. I always got the sense that Heather put our kids’ best interests first and foremost. She is also great with kids. Our girls typically are shy and slow-to-warm-up to strangers. However, Heather was able to get both of them to open up, literally within minutes of meeting them. In addition to being great with kids, she is also great with adults. She did a wonderful job communicating with us as concerned parents, but also with the teachers and administrators at the school. My kids love Heather and so do we. She is the best.”

“I want to thank you for the wonderful service you have provided, and Julie has been fantastic to work alongside. We have seen huge results in a short amount of time, and Julie couldn’t be any sweeter. I will be sure to recommend you to any families in the area that are looking for extra help. Once again, thank you very much!!”

mother of 3-year-old boy

“I would highly recommend Heather to anyone looking to help their child in speech and language. My husband and I were a little skeptical about how anyone could improve our 2-1/2 year-old daughter's speech while trying to capture and keep her attention for a long period of time. Heather is so flexible and attuned to our daughter's needs and 'moods' of the day that she is constantly switching up activities and giving our daughter choices of which one she'd like to do next. Our daughter feels comfortable with Heather and is disappointed on the days she doesn't come. Her speech has skyrocketed in one year from 30 words to more words than we can count, multiple word sentences, and endless conversations. She continues to improve our daughter's language by increasing her vocabulary, expression, and using correct sounds. Heather is always keeping us updated on progress both informally and formally at the end of current sessions and with data she continues to collect. She is also excellent at keeping my daughter's preschool teacher and school district therapist informed so everything carries over and meshes. I can't say enough wonderful things!”

Being able to have a conversation with him and understand almost everything he is communicating is priceless, and it has helped him become a more confident little man. I can attribute that to the work Katherine has done with him; she was able to bring out his personality."

“I have known and worked with Heather for 5 years. Whenever I hear that she will be working with one of my students, I am so excited for that child. I know that child's learning needs will be greatly supported with her vast knowledge, experience, and expertise. I know that child will feel safe to take the necessary risks to move their learning forward, and I also know that child will make great strides in their learning because of the diligent work they do together.”

“Heather has worked with my students in the areas of speech, language and remedial reading instruction. Heather is a true expert in these areas and a true colleague. I am very impressed with her level of communication with the homeroom teacher. She shares successful strategies that I can also use to help support that child within the classroom. She listens to feedback about what I am seeing in the classroom which helps her in her 1-on-1 work with that child. Heather is extremely thorough in her assessment of learning styles of each child she works with. She creates a well-developed action plan and her goals push each child to be their very best and improve greatly in those challenging areas.”

“Family involvement is key in the partnership that Heather creates. She communicates on a regular basis with parents and gives each child 'home' work that continues to support the work they are doing together. During tutorial meetings, she clearly explains the child's growth and continued areas to focus on. Every parent that has worked with Heather expresses to me how grateful they are to have Heather in their child's life and how much she has taught them, so they can also support the learning needs of their child.”

“Heather is truly one-of-a-kind. Her passion in helping each child be their very best, her high level of expertise in the area of speech and language, her dedication to supporting each child and their family as they move forward, and her compassion for every child she works with are what make Heather so special. My school is so lucky to have her working with our students!”

Amy Lamb, 1st and 2nd grade teacher

“My daughter first started seeing Heather when she was 2 years old. She is now 4 years old and has made tremendous progress! At my daughter’s two-year well appointment with our pediatrician, he suggested that we consult a speech pathologist as she did not yet have any words. I sought advice from the Director of our pre-school, and she recommended Heather to us. We could not be more pleased. Heather really took the time to get to know my child on a personal level and to develop a trusting relationship with her. She works at my daughter’s pace and with our (very hectic!) schedule. Heather is so creative in the games and toys she uses to get children to practice certain sounds. My daughter thinks she is playing, as opposed to practicing speech! Heather was also very honest and impartial with my husband and me when we were debating services through the Special School District. We will all be both happy and sad when she no longer needs speech therapy, as we will miss seeing Heather each week.”

“We love Jennifer! Jennifer is extremely bright and great at her job. Her infectious, bubbly personality makes everyone happy who is around her. My son never even knew he was working on speech because he was having such a great time with her. She was prompt, prepared and professional. I would highly recommend Jennifer to anyone who needs help with speech.”

mother of 11-year-old student

“Julie McDonald is amazingly competent, professional, and knowledgeable. She truly loves kids and is passionate about helping them succeed! If one technique isn’t working, she can effectively and quickly switch to individualize treatment for each child! She quickly became more than a resource; she became a friend!”

"Speech Language Communications started as a way to get back to doing what I love, while maintaining the ability to raise our twin girls. My goal was to take my years of experience as a school-based Speech Language Pathologist and design a business that provides the best possible service while offering the flexibility and convenience you and your child deserve."
